A 33-year-old motorcyclist died after a collision with a pickup truck in Maple Ridge. RCMP continue to investigate the fatal crash.
A tragic crash in Maple Ridge has left a 33-year-old motorcyclist dead, while police continue to search for answers about what led to the collision.
Fatal Collision Shuts Down Lougheed Highway
Emergency crews rushed to the intersection of Lougheed Highway and 287 Street on Saturday evening after reports of a serious crash involving a motorcycle and a pickup truck.
According to Maple Ridge RCMP, the collision happened at about 8:45 p.m. when a black Harley-Davidson travelling westbound struck a grey Ford pickup truck.
Sadly, the motorcyclist, a 33-year-old man, died at the scene despite emergency response efforts.
Pickup Driver Escapes Injury
Meanwhile, the driver of the pickup truck was not injured in the crash. However, a passenger in the vehicle suffered minor injuries and was taken to hospital for treatment.
As a result of the investigation, westbound lanes of Lougheed Highway remained closed overnight and reopened on Sunday morning.
Serious Crime Unit Takes Charge
The Maple Ridge RCMP Serious Crime Unit has now taken the lead in the investigation. Officers are working to determine exactly what happened in the moments before the deadly collision.
Police say investigators are examining every possible factor connected to the crash.
“All possible contributing factors are being looked into and considered. The investigation is ongoing,” RCMP said in a statement released Monday.
Police Seek Witnesses and Information
As the investigation continues, Mounties are asking anyone who may have witnessed the crash or who has relevant information to come forward.
