A Surrey motorcyclist faces $1,769 in fines after dangerous riding on Highway 1. BC Highway Patrol tracked him down using dashcam footage.

Surrey Rider Hit With $1,700 in Fines After Dangerous Highway 1 Ride

A risky motorcycle ride on Highway 1 has ended with hefty fines for a Surrey man after dashcam footage helped BC Highway Patrol identify him within days.

The incident has also served as a reminder that dangerous driving can carry serious consequences, especially when clear video evidence is available.

Dashcam Footage Captures Reckless Riding

The incident happened on July 3 near 176th Street on Highway 1. According to BC Highway Patrol, another driver’s dashcam recorded the motorcyclist weaving through traffic at high speed while making dangerous lane changes.

The footage clearly showed both the motorcycle and its licence plate. As a result, investigators quickly identified the rider.

Police Locate Rider Within Four Days

Officers tracked down the 23-year-old Surrey motorcyclist just four days after the incident.

Cpl. Michael McLaughlin of BC Highway Patrol said high-quality dashcam footage and a witness willing to testify can make it much easier for police to investigate dangerous driving cases.

He added that officers will continue to pursue extreme driving violations whenever strong evidence is available.

Dangerous Driving Could Have Ended in Tragedy

McLaughlin said the rider’s speed and unsafe actions created a serious risk on one of B.C.’s busiest highways.

He noted that it is easy to see how the behaviour captured on video could have resulted in a fatal crash. Because of that, police stress that reckless driving puts not only the driver at risk but also everyone else sharing the road.

Rider Receives $1,769 in Tickets

Following the investigation, the 23-year-old received a total of $1,769 in traffic fines.

BC Highway Patrol says enforcement remains a key part of improving road safety across the province. Officials also acknowledge that aggressive and reckless driving frustrates responsible motorists. Therefore, they say meaningful penalties help discourage dangerous behaviour and encourage safer choices behind the wheel.

Police continue to remind drivers and riders that dashcams often provide valuable evidence, making it increasingly difficult for dangerous driving to go unnoticed.
