A Coquitlam man faces several firearms charges after police seized two handguns during searches at properties in Coquitlam and Surrey.
Coquitlam Investigation Leads to Firearms Charges
A 35-year-old Coquitlam man is facing several firearms-related charges after a police investigation led officers to search properties in Coquitlam and Surrey.
The Combined Forces Special Enforcement Unit of British Columbia (CFSEU-BC) says its Illegal Firearm Enforcement Team (IFET) spent weeks investigating the case before obtaining an arrest warrant for the suspect in June.
Search Warrants Uncover Two Handguns
On July 16, investigators carried out search warrants at two properties linked to the investigation. One property was in Coquitlam, while the other was in Surrey.
During the searches, officers found and seized two handguns. Police identified them as a Beretta 92FS .22-calibre handgun and a Beretta M9A3 9 mm handgun.
The seizure marked a key step in the investigation and resulted in several criminal charges.
Multiple Firearms Offences Filed
Following the searches, the accused now faces six firearms-related charges, including:
- Two counts of possessing a loaded prohibited or restricted firearm without the required authorization, licence, and registration certificate.
- Two counts of possessing a prohibited firearm at a location where it was not authorized.
- Two counts of improperly storing a restricted firearm.
Court Appearance Set for August
The accused remains in custody as the case moves through the court system.
He is scheduled to appear in court on August 10, where the charges will be addressed as the legal process continues.
