A 13-year-old suffered serious injuries after an e-scooter crash in Maple Ridge. RCMP continue to investigate the June 22 incident.
A routine Monday evening turned alarming in Maple Ridge after a 13-year-old riding an e-scooter suffered serious injuries in a collision with a vehicle.
The incident happened around 5 p.m. on June 22 near the intersection of 232 Street and 124 Avenue. As a result, emergency crews rushed to the scene and launched a response.
Teen Found Injured on Sidewalk
When officers arrived, they found the young rider lying on a sidewalk with significant injuries.
Police quickly stepped in and provided first aid. Shortly afterward, paramedics transported the teen to hospital for treatment. Although the injuries were serious, doctors do not consider them life-threatening.
How the Collision Happened
According to investigators, the child was travelling north on 232 Street on an e-scooter when the collision occurred.
Police say the e-scooter struck a parked grey Audi sedan as the vehicle attempted to enter traffic. Investigators continue to review the circumstances surrounding the crash.
Driver Cooperating With Investigation
Meanwhile, the driver remained at the scene and has cooperated fully with police.
At this stage, investigators do not suspect any criminal wrongdoing. Instead, RCMP officers are focused on gathering information and speaking with potential witnesses.
Helmet Worn During Crash
Police confirmed that the 13-year-old was wearing a helmet at the time of the collision.
Safety experts often stress the importance of protective gear because helmets can help reduce the risk of severe head injuries during crashes.
