Canucks Send Silovs to Penguins in Draft Pick, Forward Exchange
In a move that signals shifting priorities, the Vancouver Canucks have traded promising goaltender Arturs Silovs to the Pittsburgh Penguins. In return, the Canucks acquired forward Chase Stillman and a fourth-round pick in the 2027 NHL Draft, reshaping both teams’ depth and future outlook.
Silovs’ departure comes after a strong season in the AHL and a key role in Abbotsford’s Calder Cup victory.
Silovs’ Impact in Abbotsford
Silovs, 24, showcased exceptional form in the AHL this past season. He posted a 14-5-1 record, with a .908 save percentage and a career-best 2.41 goals-against average in 21 regular-season games. His playoff performance was even more impressive—16-7, with a stellar .931 save percentage, 2.01 GAA, and five shutouts.
These numbers helped lead the Abbotsford Canucks to a Calder Cup championship. Silovs also became only the fourth goalie in AHL history to earn Playoff MVP honors.
Despite his talent, a crowded crease in Vancouver—with Thatcher Demko and Kevin Lankinen already signed long-term—limited Silovs’ future NHL opportunities.
Vancouver’s Strategic Depth Play
“We would like to thank Arturs for everything he has done for the hockey club,” said Vancouver GM Patrik Allvin. “Helping Abbotsford win the Calder Cup was a proud moment. We wanted to give him a better opportunity elsewhere.”
By trading Silovs, the Canucks now open space for developing goaltenders across levels and gain a future draft asset along with forward depth.
What Chase Stillman Brings to Vancouver
Chase Stillman, a former first-round pick in the 2021 NHL Draft, arrives with upside. He played 65 games this season across the AHL’s Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins and Utica Comets, tallying 12 points.
While Stillman hasn’t yet broken into a consistent NHL role, his physical play and two-way potential could develop under Vancouver’s system. At just 21, he remains a project with room to grow.
What It Means for Pittsburgh
For the Penguins, acquiring Silovs strengthens their goaltending depth, giving them a young, proven playoff performer who may thrive with new opportunities in Pittsburgh’s system.
With a transition on the horizon and future goaltending needs unclear, Silovs offers flexibility and potential.
