WestJet Flight Faces Scary Landing
A WestJet flight from Toronto to St. Maarten ended with a hard landing on Sunday, sparking concern but, thankfully, no injuries. The incident involved WestJet flight 2276, which touched down at Princess Juliana International Airport at 17:29 UTC.
According to the airline, emergency crews responded immediately, deploying foam as a precaution. Passengers and crew evacuated safely using the aircraft’s slides before being transported to the terminal.
Passengers Safe, Airline Investigates
WestJet confirmed all guests and staff were accounted for and unharmed. While awaiting details on the incident, the airline emphasized its focus on passenger support and cooperation with local authorities. Updates will be provided as more information becomes available.
Travelers Stranded After Flight Cancellation
For some Toronto residents, the aftermath was less about fear and more about frustration. John Tzanetakis, who had just completed a 10-day stay in St. Maarten, was set to fly home with his family. Instead, their flight was canceled, leaving them scrambling for accommodations.
“They haven’t given us much information,” Tzanetakis said. He noted that what they learned came mostly from social media rather than official updates. He added that while local airport staff remained kind and helpful, passengers felt left in the dark.
Social Media Fuels Confusion
As news spread, posts began circulating online describing the event as a “crash,” fueling confusion among stranded travelers. On the ground, Tzanetakis said many passengers felt shocked and concerned but relieved that no one aboard the flight suffered injuries.
