Vancouver will light up English Bay with Summer Lights on July 31, 2026, featuring a free fireworks show, food trucks, and waterfront festivities.

Vancouver’s Summer Lights Set to Dazzle English Bay

Vancouver residents may not get the traditional multi-night fireworks festival this summer, but a spectacular waterfront celebration is still on the calendar.

On July 31, 2026, the city will launch Summer Lights in English Bay, a free one-night fireworks event that promises to brighten the start of the BC Day long weekend.

A New Chapter for Vancouver Fireworks

For decades, the Honda Celebration of Light drew massive crowds to English Bay. However, financial challenges led to the festival’s indefinite cancellation, leaving many wondering if fireworks would return to Vancouver’s shoreline.

Now, Summer Lights will bring the sparkle back, although in a different format. Instead of several nights of competition, visitors can enjoy one evening packed with entertainment and a stunning fireworks display.

English Bay Ready for a Summer Celebration

The event will take place at English Bay Beach Park on Friday, July 31. Organizers from BrandLive are producing the celebration with support from the Vancouver Park Board.

In addition, guests can look forward to public viewing areas and a variety of food trucks along the waterfront. As crowds gather by the beach, local restaurants, cafés, bars, and shops throughout the West End are also expected to welcome visitors throughout the evening.

Perfect Timing for a Busy Summer Weekend

Summer Lights arrives on the Friday of the BC Day long weekend. As a result, the event will help kick off the closing weekend of Vancouver Pride Week.

Because of this timing, both residents and visitors will have another reason to explore the city and enjoy one of Vancouver’s most iconic waterfront locations.

City Leaders Welcome the Event

Vancouver Mayor Ken Sim says the celebration is designed to bring people together in a welcoming and family-friendly setting.

According to the mayor, Summer Lights will offer an opportunity for residents, families, and visitors to enjoy a memorable evening while celebrating the vibrant summer season.

Safety Plans Underway

Meanwhile, city officials are working closely with Vancouver Police and Vancouver Fire Rescue Services to ensure a safe and enjoyable experience for everyone attending.

Additional details, including fireworks timing, viewing locations, road closures, transit advice, accessibility information, and safety guidelines, will be released in the coming weeks.
