Scuba Diver Dies Near Gabriola Island in BC Waters

Incident Reported at Degnen Bay

First, a tragic scene unfolded near Gabriola Island, off Vancouver Island. A 66-year-old scuba diver lost his life in the water. Moreover, the incident happened in Degnen Bay on Wednesday. Meanwhile, bystanders quickly noticed something was wrong.

Emergency Response Arrives Fast

Then, paramedics rushed to the area after a 911 call. In addition, the call came after the diver was seen motionless in the water. However, despite fast action, the situation looked serious right away. Therefore, rescue teams worked quickly to reach him by boat.

Next, responders pulled the man from the water near a mooring buoy. Moreover, they found he was not breathing. After that, they started emergency efforts immediately. However, they could not revive him.

Solo Dive Raises Concerns

Earlier, investigators learned the man entered the water alone. Meanwhile, he swam only a short distance, less than 30 metres. Then, bystanders noticed he stopped moving on the surface. As a result, they called for help right away.
