Two people were found dead near a burned vehicle on a remote B.C. forest road. RCMP say early evidence points away from criminal activity.
Discovery on Remote Forest Road Raises Questions
A tragic discovery in southeastern British Columbia has prompted an ongoing investigation after two people were found dead near a burned vehicle on a remote forest service road.
RCMP officers responded to a report on June 16 after a vehicle and a body were located along Tate Creek Forest Service Road, a rugged and isolated area near Nakusp.
Burned Vehicle Found in Difficult Terrain
According to police, early evidence suggests the vehicle became stranded in challenging terrain before catching fire. When officers arrived, they found the body of a man close to the vehicle.
Investigators noted that the man appeared to have suffered burn-related injuries.
Meanwhile, a second body was discovered nearby. Police identified the deceased as a woman, and investigators reported no visible signs of injury.
RCMP and Coroners Continue Investigation
Authorities have tentatively identified both individuals. However, officials are continuing to work with the BC Coroners Service to formally confirm their identities and determine the exact circumstances surrounding the deaths.
Corp. Paul Britton of the Nakusp RCMP said the investigation remains in its early stages. As a result, officers are still gathering evidence and reviewing the scene.
No Signs of Criminal Activity
Although investigators have not reached final conclusions, police say the evidence collected so far points away from criminal involvement.
“While the investigation remains in the early stages and no conclusions have been made, evidence at the scene suggests that criminality is not a factor in either death,” RCMP said in a statement.
Community Awaits Further Answers
For now, many questions remain unanswered. Nevertheless, investigators continue to examine the circumstances that led to the deaths. Additional details are expected once the BC Coroners Service completes its assessment and confirms the identities of the deceased.
The investigation remains active.
