Langley RCMP seized over a kilogram of suspected cocaine and several weapons after a traffic stop. Four people were arrested as the probe continues.
Langley RCMP Uncover Suspected Drugs and Weapons During Traffic Stop
A routine traffic stop in Langley quickly turned into a major police investigation after officers uncovered a large quantity of suspected drugs and several weapons inside an SUV.
The discovery has raised concerns about drug trafficking activity in the community. As a result, Langley RCMP continues to investigate while forensic testing moves forward.
Erratic Driving Draws Police Attention
The incident began around 4:15 p.m. on June 4. Members of the Langley RCMP Special Response Team spotted a vehicle travelling erratically near Logan Avenue and Glover Road.
According to police, the SUV repeatedly drifted out of its lane and came close to hitting a curb. Because of the unsafe driving behaviour, officers conducted a targeted traffic stop.
Officers Spot Signs of Drug Trafficking
While speaking with the occupants, officers noticed items inside the vehicle that appeared to be linked to drug trafficking.
As the investigation unfolded, police arrested the driver and three passengers on suspicion of possessing drugs for the purpose of trafficking.
More Than a Kilogram of Suspected Cocaine Seized
A search of the vehicle led to the seizure of more than one kilogram of what investigators believe is cocaine.
In addition, officers located materials that police say could be used to package drugs for distribution.
The significant amount of suspected narcotics suggests the drugs may have been intended for sale rather than personal use.
Weapons Also Found Inside the SUV
Along with the suspected drugs, officers recovered several weapons from the vehicle.
Police seized bear spray, a large hunting knife, and an imitation handgun during the search.
The presence of both drugs and weapons has added another layer of concern to the ongoing investigation.
Four Released as Investigation Continues
Although all four individuals were arrested at the scene, they have since been released while investigators gather additional evidence.
The seized drugs, weapons, and related materials are now undergoing detailed analysis. Investigators say the results will help determine the next steps in the case.
RCMP Emphasizes Public Safety
Langley RCMP Sgt. Zynal Sharoom says the seizure highlights the dangers often associated with drug trafficking.
“The significant quantity of suspected drugs and presence of weapons is deeply concerning and underscores the risks associated with this type of criminal activity,” Sharoom said.
He added that public safety remains a top priority and that officers will continue working to remove dangerous substances and weapons from local streets.
As the investigation progresses, police are expected to review forensic results before deciding whether charges will be recommended.
