Delta Police dog Ziva is retiring after years of sniffing out illegal drugs and helping officers keep the community safe.

A Sharp Nose, A Strong Record: Ziva Retires

After years of hard work and a nose that rarely misses a clue, Delta Police dog Ziva is ready for retirement.

The skilled police dog has helped officers find illegal drugs and other items during police work. Now, as Ziva steps away from duty, the community has a chance to celebrate her service and the work she did to help keep Delta safe.

A Key Member of Delta’s Police Team

Ziva served with Delta Police’s Traffic Specialty Dog Unit. The team helps officers check vehicles and goods for illegal drugs and firearms. As a result, Ziva played a key role in the fight against drug crime.

Her work has also shown how much a trained police dog can bring to an investigation. While officers gather facts and search for clues, a dog like Ziva can use her keen sense of smell to find items that might otherwise stay hidden.

For example, in January 2024, Ziva helped officers find a large bag of cocaine and fentanyl hidden inside a car in North Delta. Police had stopped the vehicle but could not find the drugs at first. Ziva then searched the car and helped uncover the stash.

A Career Worth Celebrating

Police dogs need skill, focus and years of training. They also build a close bond with their handlers. Together, they work as a team in situations that can call for patience, care and sharp instincts.

Ziva’s service is a reminder that police work takes many forms. Along with officers on patrol, trained dogs help find evidence and support safer communities.

Now, as Ziva begins a new chapter, she deserves plenty of rest, play and time to enjoy life away from the job.

Thank You, Ziva!

Ziva has made a valuable contribution to Delta through her work with local police. Her keen nose helped officers uncover hidden drugs, while her service showed the value of the police dog team.

As she retires, the community can look back on a job well done. Thank you, Ziva, for your hard work and for helping keep Delta safe!
