A tragic bus crash outside Horseshoe Bay ferry terminal leaves one dead and another critically injured, sparking major delays and event cancellations.

A devastating collision involving a TransLink transit bus has left one pedestrian dead and another seriously injured in West Vancouver. The crash occurred around 3:30 p.m. on Wednesday at the intersection of Keith Road and Bay Street, adjacent to the busy Horseshoe Bay ferry terminal.

According to West Vancouver Police, the incident unfolded rapidly and involved pedestrians. The condition of the bus driver remains unconfirmed, though some reports suggest the possibility of a medical emergency behind the wheel.

Emergency Response and Public Safety

First responders, including multiple ambulances and an air ambulance, arrived promptly on the scene. The West Vancouver Police Department issued a public advisory urging people to avoid the area while emergency crews continued to provide aid and begin their investigation.

In a formal statement, police referred to the collision as a “tragic event”, noting the gravity of the injuries and the scene.

Transit Disruptions and Delays

TransLink, the regional transportation authority, confirmed the involvement of one of its buses but did not offer additional information regarding the driver or the circumstances leading to the crash. Passengers were advised to expect delays on Route 257, the Vancouver–Horseshoe Bay express line, as authorities continued to manage the aftermath.

Community Event Cancelled Amid Shock

The crash occurred just ahead of Taste of the Bay, a local event promoting nearby eateries and businesses. In light of the tragedy, the Horseshoe Bay Business Association announced the event’s cancellation, citing the need to prioritize public safety and out of respect for those affected.

In a social media statement, the association called the incident “extremely unfortunate” and “unforeseen,” promising updates when the event could be safely rescheduled.

Investigation Underway

Authorities have launched an official investigation to determine the exact cause of the collision. While no formal conclusions have been shared, the possibility of a health-related emergency involving the bus driver remains under consideration.

The identities of the victims have not yet been released, pending family notification.
