Victoria Police Bring Wanted Man Home from U.S. in Cross-Border Operation

Wanted Man Tracked Across Borders

First of all, Victoria police have brought a wanted man back to Canada after a wide-reaching international search. In fact, William Tate was located in the United States. Meanwhile, he had been wanted on serious charges linked to child sexual abuse material (CSAM). Additionally, the case moved quickly once investigators built strong leads.

Moreover, Tate was supposed to report to the Vancouver Island Regional Correction Centre in late 2025. However, he failed to appear. As a result, a warrant was issued for Escape from Lawful Custody. Consequently, police expanded their search beyond Canada.

Co-ordinated International Arrest

Next, Victoria Police Department investigators worked closely with multiple U.S. agencies. Specifically, they partnered with the FBI, U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), and the U.S. Marshals Service. In addition, this teamwork helped speed up the search.

Furthermore, investigators tracked Tate to the San Francisco area. After that, authorities moved in and took action. Then, officials transported him back to Canada. Finally, BC Corrections took custody once he arrived.

Meanwhile, police emphasized how cross-border cooperation played a key role. Likewise, agencies shared information quickly, which helped close the case efficiently.

How the Case Began

To understand the case, it goes back to December 2017. At that time, Victoria police identified an IP address connected to the uploading, downloading, and sharing of CSAM on a peer-to-peer network. Subsequently, investigators launched a deeper probe.

Afterward, police executed a search warrant at Tate’s home. During that search, they seized several electronic devices. In fact, those devices contained thousands of images and videos linked to CSAM. Therefore, the investigation led to multiple charges.

Additionally, the evidence built a strong foundation for prosecution. As a result, the legal process continued over several years.

Back in Canadian Custody

Ultimately, Tate is now back in Canada. Moreover, he has been handed over to BC Corrections. In the end, authorities say the coordinated effort ensured he was located and returned safely.

Meanwhile, Victoria police continue to stress the importance of international cooperation. Likewise, they note that digital investigations often cross borders. Therefore, teamwork remains essential in complex cases like this.

Finally, officials confirm the case remains part of ongoing court processes.
