Quick Response Turns Serious

First, a routine police call in Surrey, British Columbia, turned tense very fast. In fact, officers were called to a report of a suspicious man near a home on Southpark Crescent at about 7:30 p.m. on Monday. Then, things escalated quickly.

Meanwhile, the area is part of Surrey, where police often respond to neighbourhood safety calls. However, this time, the situation became critical within minutes.

Confrontation Near Southpark Crescent

Next, officers arrived and approached the scene. After that, police say the man confronted them. So, the interaction changed from a check-in to a dangerous encounter.

As a result, officers fired their weapons. Consequently, the man was injured near the home. In addition, emergency crews rushed in right away to provide urgent medical help on site.

Then, the injured man was taken to hospital. However, his condition has not been shared publicly at this time.

Meanwhile, the Independent Investigations Office of B.C. stepped in. Moreover, the agency confirmed it is now reviewing the police shooting in detail.

At the same time, police told investigators that the man may have been trying to break into the home before officers arrived. However, that claim has not been tested in court.

So, the watchdog is now looking at whether any officer may have broken the law during the incident. In addition, it is reviewing whether the use of force was reasonable.

Witnesses Asked to Come Forward
