Surrey Schools seek 2,225 backpacks and supplies for students as demand surges. Community support is needed to help kids start the year ready to learn.

Back-to-School Drive Sees Record Demand

The Surrey School District is sounding the alarm as requests for school supplies hit a record high. More than 100 schools have asked for 2,225 backpacks filled with essentials—that’s 800 more than last year.

With classes set to begin soon, the district is calling on the community to help ensure every student starts the year prepared.

Growing Student Population, Growing Needs

According to Meagan Bobowsky, Development Officer with Major Gifts & Endowments, the surge reflects the district’s rapid growth.

“With the increasing number of students in Surrey and White Rock, the need to ensure they all come to school equipped and ready to learn has grown as well,” she explained in a recent district update.

How the Community Can Help

The school district is urging residents, businesses, and organizations to contribute backpacks and supplies. Every donation, big or small, helps reduce the pressure on families who might otherwise struggle with back-to-school costs.

From pencils and notebooks to sturdy backpacks, each item plays a part in setting up students for success.

Why It Matters More This Year

The jump in demand highlights how quickly the region is expanding. More families are moving into Surrey and White Rock, and many are facing financial challenges. By donating, the community helps level the playing field so every child walks into class with the same chance to learn and thrive.
