19-year-old Tristan Primeaux-Poitras shot while on vacation in Puerto Plata, Dominican Republic; investigation ongoing and family receiving consular support.

Quebec Family Mourns Teen Killed Abroad

Tragedy struck early Monday morning in the Dominican Republic as 19-year-old Tristan Primeaux-Poitras, a resident of Sainte-Julienne, Quebec, was fatally shot while on vacation with his brother.

The young man was rushed to Centro Medico Bournigal in Puerto Plata but could not be saved, according to Diego Pesqueira, spokesperson for the Dominican Republic National Police.

Vacation Turns Deadly

Preliminary reports indicate that Tristan and his 26-year-old brother had left their hotel around 4 a.m. to grab some food on a scooter. On their way back, witnesses say the siblings were pursued by two individuals riding a motorcycle.

Forensic reports confirm that Tristan suffered a gunshot wound to the left side of his body. Investigators are combing the scene for evidence, including photographs and fingerprints, but no arrests have been made.

Community Remembers Tristan

The municipality of Sainte-Julienne, located roughly 70 kilometres north of Montreal, shared a heartfelt tribute on Facebook. “We offer our most sincere condolences to his family and loved ones and anyone affected by this tragedy,” the post read, honouring the life of the young Quebecer.

Investigation and Consular Support

Tristan’s body was transferred to the National Institute of Forensic Sciences in Santiago for further examination. Global Affairs Canada confirmed it is aware of the incident and is actively working with local authorities to provide consular assistance to the grieving family.

Authorities have urged anyone with information about the attack to come forward as the investigation continues.
