Canada has officially designated the Bishnoi Gang as a terrorist entity under the Criminal Code, Public Safety Minister Gary Anandasangaree announced Monday.
“Today, our government listed the Bishnoi Gang as a terrorist entity. Violence, terror, and the intimidation of communities will never be tolerated in Canada,” Anandasangaree said in a statement posted on X.
Public Safety Canada stated the gang met the legal definition of a terrorist group, with activities that “target specific communities to create a climate of fear and intimidation.”
The Bishnoi Gang, led by Lawrence Bishnoi, has been linked to extortion, smuggling, and multiple high-profile murders in India and abroad.
With the designation, Canadian authorities can now freeze or seize any assets controlled by the group, while immigration and border officials can use the listing to deny entry or residency to individuals connected with it.
It is now a criminal offence for anyone in Canada — or Canadians abroad — to provide funding, support, or resources to the Bishnoi Gang.
“Acts of violence and terror have no place in Canada, especially those that target specific communities to create a climate of fear and intimidation,” Public Safety Canada said in its release.
