Vancouver’s Veritree raises $9.1M to expand its AI-powered nature restoration platform, targeting one billion trees planted by 2030.

Three years after branching off from sustainable fashion brand Tentree, Vancouver-based climate tech startup Veritree has reached a significant milestone—100 million trees pledged. Now, it’s looking to scale that impact even further, backed by a fresh $9.1 million CAD Series A funding round.

From Apparel to Impact-Driven Innovation

Veritree began as an internal tool at Tentree, the popular Canadian brand known for planting ten trees per item sold. Recognizing the broader potential of their software, the Tentree team spun out Veritree in 2019 to support global reforestation efforts with robust monitoring, data verification, and transparency tools.

AI, Auditing, and Expansion Ahead

With its latest funding, Veritree is investing in:

  • AI-driven monitoring and analytics
  • Stronger data auditing and accessibility features
  • Expanding into new restoration zones across South America and Asia

The company’s bold goal? Help corporate partners plant one billion trees by 2030.

Backed by Leading Climate Investors

This all-equity round was led by Pender Ventures and supported by Diagram’s ClimateTech Fund, with ongoing support from Garage Capital and Northside Ventures. It boosts Veritree’s total funding to $15.4 million CAD.

While CEO Derrick Emsley confirmed a minor shareholder realignment, he emphasized the company’s stability and focus on growth.

Five Fronts of Global Restoration

Veritree currently supports:

  1. Agroforestry – Fruit tree planting for food security
  2. Kelp Seaforestation – Restoring ocean ecosystems
  3. Mangrove Restoration – Coastal resilience building
  4. Post-Wildfire Recovery – Reviving devastated forests
  5. Terrestrial Reforestation – Expanding green cover worldwide

These initiatives span Canada, the U.S., and beyond, offering clients a verifiable path to climate contribution.

Building Trust in Nature-Based Solutions

As ESG conversations become more politically charged, particularly in North America, Veritree stands firm. Emsley believes reforestation remains a unifying issue, with tangible impacts like wildfires and deforestation pushing urgency.

“Trust and transparency are what the sector has been missing,” said Pender Ventures’ Isaac Souweine, who joined Veritree’s board. “Veritree is filling that gap.”

Not Just Goodwill—Real Business Value

Emsley argues that nature restoration doesn’t need to be a business cost. Instead, it can boost ESG compliance, brand affinity, customer engagement, and employee satisfaction.

“This isn’t just about planting trees. It’s about planting value—for the planet and for business.”

With a strong leadership team, proprietary tech, and growing demand from environmentally-conscious enterprises, Veritree is poised to lead the next wave of climate innovation. Their mission is ambitious, but in a world facing increasing ecological urgency, it’s a mission that matters.
