Surrey Police opens registration for its first student academy this July. Limited to 28 spots, the program offers real-world policing insights for teens.
Surrey Police Service (SPS) is opening new doors for youth interested in law enforcement. This July, SPS will host its inaugural Student Police Academy—a hands-on, immersive experience tailored for high school students eager to explore the world of policing.
28 Students to Experience Policing Firsthand
Set to run from July 7 to 11, the academy will accept only 28 students in Grades 11 and 12. With a registration fee of $150, the program promises a dynamic, five-day schedule from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. each day. Participants will receive SPS athletic gear and other program-related materials.
Inside the SPS Training Centre: Real-World Skills and Scenarios
One of the academy’s standout features is its location—the state-of-the-art SPS Training Centre. Here, students will engage in scenario-based exercises, fitness training, de-escalation techniques, communication drills, and teamwork-focused activities. Legal studies and problem-solving modules will round out the curriculum, offering students an authentic taste of police training.
Who Can Apply: Requirements and Registration
Eligible applicants must be entering Grade 11 or 12 in the fall or graduating in June 2025. Additional requirements include a genuine interest in policing, physical fitness, a clean criminal record, and Canadian citizenship or permanent residency. A fitness log must be submitted prior to the start of the program. Registration is now open via eventbrite.com.
A Week of Insight, Challenge, and Growth
“This is an excellent opportunity for young people to gain insights into the policing profession and to enhance their fitness levels and problem-solving skills,” said Superintendent Lav Mangat of SPS’s Community Policing Bureau. “We are confident the experience will be both challenging and rewarding for students and staff alike.”
