A Surrey homeowner got a startling start to the day after spotting a deer stuck in his garden gate on Beechfield, Banstead. The discovery was made around 7 a.m. on Friday, May 9, just as he was heading out for work.
Swift Action by RSPCA and Firefighters
Acting quickly, the resident called the RSPCA for help. Inspector Jo Bowling arrived within an hour and tried to free the deer herself, using a car jack. When that proved too difficult, she requested backup from the Surrey Fire and Rescue Service.
Successful Rescue with Teamwork
Firefighters arrived with special equipment and, with Inspector Bowling’s help, carefully widened the gate. Together, they managed to lift the deer to safety. The animal was released into the garden, and a gate was left open to allow it to escape back into the fields.
Deer Released Unharmed
The deer wasted no time and sprinted back to freedom, completely unharmed. Inspector Bowling shared her relief, explaining that deer are highly sensitive to stress and often don’t survive after being trapped. “It’s always the best part of the job to see such a beautiful animal finally free,” she said.
