The Clock’s Ticking! Vancouver Gears Up for World Cup 2026

Can you believe it? We’re officially just one year away from the incredible FIFA World Cup 2026, and Vancouver is already in full-swing preparations for this monumental event. The city recently pulled out all the stops to mark this exciting milestone, hosting a fantastic “One Year To Go” celebration. This event was a true fusion of Vancouver’s vibrant spirit and the exhilarating world of soccer, packed with fun activities, a major unveiling, and even some fantastic prizes you can still win!

It feels like only yesterday we heard the thrilling news that Vancouver would host a whopping 7 matches for the FIFA World Cup. Now, as we hit the one-year-to-go mark, the entire city is practically glowing with anticipation and celebration.

On June 11, the iconic Terry Fox Plaza became a hub of excitement. Crowds gathered to witness the grand unveiling of Vancouver’s official Host City Countdown Clock. This impressive clock will diligently tick down the days until the tournament’s first whistle blows. Furthermore, it’s quickly becoming the perfect spot for a selfie! Everyone is encouraged to snap a pic and tag it with #WeAreVancouver to proudly display their city spirit.

In a move to further honor the city’s passionate soccer community, Vancouver Mayor Ken Sim also made a special announcement: Friday, June 13, is now officially Soccer Day in Vancouver!

The Countdown Clock’s unveiling was just one part of the wider celebrations. The festivities also included enthusiastic youth players engaging in exciting mini-pitch matches, skillfully organized by renowned coaches Christine Sinclair and Tosaint Ricketts. Additionally, iconic landmarks in Vancouver and across the entire country were illuminated in Canada’s national colors to truly mark the “One Year To Go” milestone.
