Dozr appoints Dave Frazier as president to lead growth in construction tech, as co-founder Kevin Forestell becomes chair. Discover their next innovation phase.
Dozr, the Kitchener-Waterloo-based construction technology company that revolutionized the heavy equipment rental industry, has announced a significant leadership change. After nearly a decade of steering the company as CEO, Kevin Forestell will transition into the role of chair, while Dave Frazier, a seasoned leader with expertise in both construction and technology, takes the reins as president.
This change comes as Dozr continues to expand its reach across North America, driving innovation in the construction and rental marketplace. With Frazier now at the helm, Dozr is poised for its next phase of growth, especially as the company aims to leverage technology and AI to enhance customer experience and streamline operations.
A New Chapter for Dozr: Forestell Reflects on Accomplishments
Kevin Forestell, the co-founder of Dozr, shared his excitement about this new chapter in a recent LinkedIn post, explaining that after leading the company for almost ten years, it was the right time for him to step into a new role. Reflecting on the journey, Forestell said, “I’m super proud of the accomplishments we’ve had over the last decade. It’s been a lot of hard work, but it just felt like now is the right time to move on and try something new.”
Under Forestell’s leadership, Dozr expanded its platform across North America, growing its revenue by a remarkable 890 percent. The company also cracked Deloitte’s list of fastest-growing tech firms, achieved a successful $27.5-million Series B funding round in 2022, and built a robust marketplace that serves thousands of contractors across the continent.
However, as the company faces a new chapter, Forestell said, “It just felt like now is the right time to move on and try something new,” emphasizing that the transition was a mutual decision between him and the board to allow him more time with his family and new pursuits.
Dave Frazier: A Dynamic Leader with Dual Expertise
Stepping into the president role is Dave Frazier, who brings a wealth of experience from both the construction and tech industries. Frazier’s career spans over 20 years, during which he has honed his expertise with companies like ClearStone Windows, Wasatch Mountain Excavating, and InXPress. His most recent role was as CEO of Utah-based Smilelove, a direct-to-consumer orthodontics company, and prior to that, he served as CFO at Kadence, a workplace management software company.
Frazier is enthusiastic about joining Dozr and leading the company into the future. “I’m incredibly excited and honored to join Dozr as president,” Frazier told BetaKit. “This is a company that’s truly changing the game in equipment rentals, and I’m looking forward to leading the next phase of growth, leveraging technology and AI to scale, enhance the customer experience, and drive real operational efficiency.”
Frazier’s background in construction will allow him to better understand Dozr’s clients, many of whom are located in the southern US, including in Florida, Texas, and California. His tech-savvy leadership, combined with his experience in construction, will be vital as the company continues to evolve its marketplace and increase automation.
A Vision for the Future: Technology-Driven Growth
Dozr has always aimed to bridge the gap between the construction industry and technology, and under Frazier’s leadership, the company will continue to focus on tech-enabled growth. The company offers a comprehensive marketplace for heavy equipment rentals, enabling contractors to easily compare prices, find the right equipment, and book directly online. Additionally, Dozr’s white-labeled software solution, WebStores, allows rental businesses to integrate Dozr’s platform with their existing websites and enterprise systems.
As the company progresses with its growth strategy, Frazier is excited to continue building on Dozr’s momentum. He acknowledged that Dozr’s focus on operational excellence will help the company grow efficiently, particularly as the company continues to innovate with AI and automation.
Financial Growth and Future Expansion Plans
The leadership transition comes as Dozr has raised over $60 million in growth capital, which will support the company’s scaling efforts. In addition to its 2022 Series B funding round, Dozr has secured an undisclosed amount of equity and debt funding from existing investors, including RBC, to further enhance its tech capabilities.
Despite the challenges faced by the company, including layoffs and a shift in staffing plans, Frazier believes that Dozr’s strong foundation, combined with its continued innovation, will allow the company to achieve long-term success. “We’re focused on delivering operational efficiency, and that’s been a big part of how we’ve been able to grow through these challenging times,” said Forestell.
No Plans for a New CEO
With Frazier’s appointment as president, Forestell emphasized that there are no immediate plans to bring in a new CEO or chief growth officer. Frazier’s experience in both tech and construction makes him the ideal candidate to lead Dozr’s growth, and Forestell believes Frazier’s expertise will help the company meet the needs of its clients and continue innovating in the construction technology space.
As the company looks to the future, Frazier’s leadership will help Dozr navigate new challenges and opportunities, especially in a competitive market where technology plays a key role in shaping the future of construction.
