Volunteers Unite for White Rock Shoreline Cleanup

The White Rock shoreline cleanup brought together dedicated volunteers who removed more than 200 pounds of waste on August 17. The event, led by the Lower Mainland Green Team in partnership with Green Teams Canada and the City of White Rock, drew nearly 40 participants. Families, retirees, newcomers, and students joined hands to make the waterfront cleaner and more welcoming.

Record-Breaking Results in Second Summer Cleanup

The second cleanup proved to be record-breaking, with 206 pounds of litter collected. Combined with the July 20 cleanup, where 56 volunteers gathered, the total weight of waste removed this summer reached 325 pounds. Organizers highlighted the effort as a strong demonstration of community pride and environmental stewardship.

What Volunteers Collected Along the Shore

Divided into three groups, volunteers covered the promenade, beach, and sidewalks. The haul included over 600 cigarette butts, food wrappers, bottles, discarded shoes, tarps, and even barbecue parts. The variety of items underscored the importance of continued efforts to keep the shoreline healthy and safe for residents and visitors.

A Broader Vision for Community and Environment

The cleanup formed part of the Lower Mainland Green Team’s mission to build connected, resilient communities actively engaged in environmental care. More hands-on activities are already being planned for the fall in White Rock. Organizers confirmed that future dates and locations will be posted on the team’s event page at meetup.com.
