Man in Life-Threatening Condition After Toronto Shooting

A downtown Toronto shooting late Saturday night has left a man in critical condition and led to the arrest of three individuals, police confirmed early Sunday.

Incident Location and Timing

Gunshots were reported around 10:30 p.m. near John Street and Adelaide Street West, an area known for nightlife and pedestrian traffic. Officers responding to the scene found a man in his 30s suffering from gunshot wounds.

The victim was rushed to hospital with injuries deemed life-threatening. As of Sunday morning, his condition remained unchanged, according to a Toronto Police spokesperson.

Arrests Following Suspect Escape

Initial reports indicated that multiple suspects fled the area in a vehicle after the shooting. Police later confirmed that three individuals had been arrested in connection with the incident. Their identities and potential charges have not yet been disclosed.

The motive behind the shooting is still under investigation.

Witnesses Describe Chaotic Scene

Chris Kim, an employee at a nearby restaurant, said he witnessed a group of about six men in a physical altercation on the street before one man drew a firearm and fired multiple rounds.

“I saw him pull a gun and shoot at another man,” Kim said. “It happened right in the middle of the road — then everyone started running.”

He added that both sides of the street were filled with people dining outdoors when the shots rang out.

Another witness, Florian Potra, working on a nearby patio, described hearing what he initially believed were tire pops. “Then I saw people running south on John Street, and realized it was gunfire,” Potra said. “Five more shots followed.”

Police Response and Area Impact

Police were on scene within minutes. Officers secured the area and closed surrounding roads overnight to allow for forensic examination and witness interviews. The roads were reopened by Sunday morning.

Ongoing Investigation

Toronto Police continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the shooting. Authorities are reviewing surveillance footage and asking anyone who witnessed the event or has relevant information to come forward.
