Four teens face kidnapping and extortion charges after a man was abducted, assaulted, and forced to steal alcohol in Windsor, Ont., police say.
Arrests in Windsor Abduction Case
Windsor police have arrested four teenagers following a violent kidnapping incident in the city’s west end. The arrests come after a 23-year-old man was abducted, threatened with weapons, and forced to commit theft earlier this month.
Incident in Sandwich Neighbourhood
The confrontation took place shortly after midnight on August 11 along St. Joseph Street in Windsor’s Sandwich area. Authorities say the suspects, driving a stolen vehicle, approached the victim and forced him inside at gunpoint.
Victim’s Ordeal and Assault
Once inside the vehicle, the man was held against his will for nearly two hours. Police allege he was assaulted multiple times and threatened with both a handgun and a machete during the ordeal.
Forced Theft at Convenience Store
At one point, investigators say a machete was pressed to the victim’s stomach while he was ordered to steal alcohol from a Mill Street convenience store. After complying, he was allegedly assaulted again before escaping to a nearby park.
Police Response and Arrests
Following the report, Windsor police launched an investigation that led to four arrests between August 14 and August 19 in Windsor and nearby Chatham. The suspects include three 15-year-olds and one 17-year-old.
Charges Laid Against Suspects
The youths face multiple charges, including kidnapping, extortion, forcible confinement, and possession of stolen property. Additional charges such as assault with a weapon and wearing a disguise with intent have also been laid. Their identities are protected under the Youth Criminal Justice Act.
Ongoing Investigation
The stolen vehicle used in the incident has been recovered. Police say the investigation remains active and are urging anyone with additional information to come forward.
