According to the Penticton RCMP, the crash involved a motor vehicle and multiple cyclists who were participating in the Granfondo. Emergency responders declared one cyclist dead at the scene, while two others were transported to hospital with serious injuries. White Lake Road was closed for several hours following the incident, with traffic diverted from approximately noon until 8:00 p.m. as collision analysts examined the scene. DriveBC confirmed the road reopened Sunday evening. Authorities have not yet confirmed the cause of the crash and say the investigation remains ongoing.

Penticton Mayor Julius Bloomfield responded to the tragedy with a message of condolence. “We are devastated by the news of this tragedy and our hearts go out to everyone who has been affected,” he said in a written statement. “This is a time to come together with compassion and kindness.”

Event organizers expressed shock and sadness in a statement issued Sunday afternoon. “We are heartbroken by the fatal incident that occurred during today’s event. Our prayers are with all those impacted,” the statement read. Organizers added that they are fully cooperating with the RCMP investigation.
