Elon Musk Deletes Controversial Post Linking Trump to Epstein Files

Elon Musk removes a tweet alleging Trump’s name in Jeffrey Epstein files, sparking political fallout and calls for full disclosure.

Elon Musk Removes Explosive Tweet on Trump-Epstein Connection

Tech billionaire Elon Musk deleted a provocative post on X (formerly Twitter) claiming that former US President Donald Trump is named in the controversial Jeffrey Epstein files. The post, which accused Trump of being linked to the convicted sex offender, briefly ignited political and public uproar before Musk removed it along with other critical tweets targeting Trump.

A Sharp Turn in Musk and Trump’s Ongoing Feud

The deletion marks a significant moment in the escalating public feud between Musk and Trump. Musk had posted: “Time to drop the really big bomb: @realDonaldTrump is in the Epstein files. That is the real reason they have not been made public. Have a nice day, DJT!” This was followed by another tweet promising, “Mark this post for the future. The truth will come out.” The allegations intensified tensions after Musk condemned Trump’s proposed federal spending package, prompting Trump to retaliate by threatening federal contracts with Musk’s companies.

Political Pressure Mounts Over Epstein Files Transparency

The claim drew immediate reactions from political circles, with House Democrats demanding the release of the Epstein files to verify any government officials’ involvement. According to Axios, lawmakers are pressing the Department of Justice and FBI for swift disclosure. FBI Director Kash Patel has declined to comment on the dispute or on alleged connections between Trump and Epstein.

The Background of the Epstein Case and Its Shadow Over Politics

Jeffrey Epstein, a financier with extensive elite connections, was arrested in 2019 on sex trafficking charges involving minors. His death in jail was officially ruled a suicide, though controversy remains over possible foul play due to the high-profile individuals linked to him. The files related to Epstein’s activities remain largely undisclosed, fueling speculation and political controversy.

Public and Expert Reactions to Musk’s Retracted Accusation

Following the tweet removal, prominent figures such as James Fishback, who leads the “DOGE checks” initiative, welcomed Musk’s deletion as a “good first step” but urged a “full-throated apology” to Trump and his family. The incident underscores the volatile intersection of social media, politics, and ongoing investigations tied to Epstein’s network.

Canada Post, Union Exchange Arbitration Terms in Talks

Canada Post and CUPW resume talks, exchanging arbitration proposals after union files unfair labour complaint over bargaining conduct.

Renewed Bargaining Efforts Underway
Canada Post and the Canadian Union of Postal Workers (CUPW) resumed collective bargaining discussions on Thursday, exchanging initial proposals for a potential arbitration process. The renewed talks follow growing tensions over stalled contract negotiations and government calls for resolution.

Arbitration Framework in Discussion
According to CUPW’s statement released late Thursday night, the two sides exchanged terms of reference for arbitration through federal mediators. These terms include which issues could be submitted for arbitration, decision-making criteria for the arbitrator, and a proposed timeline for delivering a final ruling. The union emphasized its willingness to work toward a “successful conclusion” to the long-running contract dispute.

Ottawa Urges Settlement or Arbitration
The return to negotiations was prompted by a recent request from Employment Minister Patty Hajdu, who urged both parties to either reach a negotiated settlement or agree to binding arbitration. Hajdu’s call came amid concerns over the lack of progress in resolving the labour conflict.

Union Alleges Bad-Faith Bargaining
The resumed discussions took place a day after CUPW filed an unfair labour practice complaint against Canada Post. The union alleges that the Crown corporation has attempted to bypass formal bargaining channels by engaging directly with employees via a dedicated negotiation website, which CUPW claims undermines its legal role as exclusive bargaining agent.

Website at Centre of Controversy
The complaint submitted to the Canadian Industrial Relations Board accuses Canada Post of using “alarmist language” and “misinformation” on its employee communications site, allegedly in an effort to weaken support for the union. Canada Post has denied the accusations and declined further comment when approached.

Uncertain Path Forward
While both sides are back at the table and have begun outlining arbitration terms, it remains unclear whether binding arbitration will ultimately be accepted or whether a direct agreement can still be reached. The outcome could impact thousands of postal workers across Canada and affect mail delivery services nationwide.

Ozempic, Wegovy May Cause Vision Loss, EMA Warns

EMA links Novo Nordisk’s Ozempic and Wegovy to rare optic nerve damage causing sudden vision loss; semaglutide risk under global review.

European Regulator Flags Vision Risk in Semaglutide Drugs

The European Medicines Agency (EMA) has concluded that Novo Nordisk’s popular weight-loss drug Wegovy and type 2 diabetes treatments Ozempic and Rybelsus may be linked to a rare but serious eye disorder known as non-arteritic anterior ischemic optic neuropathy (NAION).

This marks the first time a regulatory authority has officially recognized a connection between semaglutide — the active ingredient in these drugs — and NAION, a condition that can cause sudden, painless vision loss in one eye.

Rare Disorder, Significant Impact

NAION occurs when blood flow to the optic nerve is reduced, resulting in damage that can lead to permanent blindness. While the EMA estimates the risk at up to 1 in 10,000 users, it noted that patients on semaglutide were twice as likely to develop the condition compared to those not on the drug.

This conclusion follows an EMA review that began in December 2024, prompted by emerging clinical data and post-market safety reports.

Evidence Behind the Decision

The EMA analyzed data from nearly 350,000 diabetic patients, alongside clinical trial results, non-clinical data, and real-world surveillance. Findings consistently indicated an elevated risk of NAION with long-term semaglutide use, particularly compared to users of other diabetes medication classes.

Semaglutide is part of the GLP-1 receptor agonist drug class, known for its effectiveness in regulating blood sugar and promoting weight loss by inducing satiety.

Label Change and Regulatory Actions

As a result of the findings, the EMA has requested that Novo Nordisk update product labeling to list NAION as a potential side effect, categorized as “very rare.” Physicians are being advised to monitor patients for early symptoms of visual changes, particularly those with preexisting eye conditions.

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has not yet commented on the EMA’s findings, but pressure may build for a similar review in North America.

Global Implications Amid Soaring Demand

The safety alert comes at a time when global demand for semaglutide-based drugs is surging, driven by interest in both weight-loss and metabolic treatments. While the absolute risk remains low, regulators emphasize the importance of informed prescribing and vigilant monitoring.

Patients currently taking Ozempic, Wegovy, or Rybelsus are advised not to discontinue their medication without medical consultation, but to report any sudden changes in vision promptly.

Health Alert: Thousands of AC Units Recalled for Mould

Health Canada recalls thousands of Midea window air conditioners due to mould risk, urging consumers to stop use and contact the manufacturer for free repair.

Health Canada Issues Urgent Recall of Midea AC Units

Health Canada has issued a nationwide recall of thousands of Midea-branded window air conditioning units over concerns they may harbour mould, potentially posing respiratory health risks. The recall comes as many Canadians rely on air conditioning to beat rising summer temperatures and seek indoor relief from wildfire smoke.

Faulty Drainage Raises Risk of Mould Exposure

According to the recall notice, some of the affected units fail to drain water effectively, causing moisture to pool and create conditions ideal for mould growth. This mould, if present, may become airborne and lead to respiratory issues or infections, particularly in vulnerable populations such as children, the elderly, and those with pre-existing lung conditions.

Seasonal Use Heightens Urgency

With summer heat waves intensifying and wildfires blanketing parts of the Prairies in smoke, Canadians are increasingly using air conditioning to stay safe and cool indoors. However, continued use of the recalled models could inadvertently expose users to mould — a hidden indoor health hazard. Health experts warn that improper filtration and moisture buildup are especially risky when windows are sealed shut during poor air quality events.

Manufacturer Responds with Free Repairs

Midea, the manufacturer of the recalled units, reported receiving five complaints from Canadian customers regarding visible mould. The company advises that the issue stems from a faulty drain plug or bubble level, which may require servicing. Affected customers are being offered free repairs or potential refunds. Consumers are urged to stop using the units immediately and contact Midea customer support for resolution.

How to Identify Affected Models

Specific model numbers and serial codes involved in the recall are listed on Health Canada’s official recall database. Consumers who suspect they may own an affected unit should check the product label located on the side or back of their air conditioner. Instructions on next steps, including how to schedule repairs or request refunds, are provided on the manufacturer’s website.

Broader Concerns About Indoor Air Quality

While air conditioners can improve comfort and reduce exposure to wildfire smoke, not all are equipped to handle fine particulate matter (PM2.5). Experts recommend using HEPA filters or air purifiers alongside AC units to ensure safer indoor air, particularly during fire season. The recall highlights a growing need for regulatory scrutiny of appliances marketed for indoor environmental health.

PM Carney Defends Modi’s G7 Invitation Despite Controversy

0

Prime Minister Mark Carney is standing firm on his decision to invite Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi to the upcoming G7 summit, even as security officials continue investigating Modi’s government’s alleged links to the 2023 murder of Canadian activist Hardeep Singh Nijjar.

Carney extended the invite during a phone call on Friday morning, which Modi promptly accepted. The summit, scheduled from June 15 to 17 in Kananaskis, Alberta, will include leaders from the world’s major economies, with India as a key guest.

Why Invite Modi Now?

Carney explained during a press conference on Parliament Hill that the G7 summit focuses on building partnerships with emerging and developing nations. He stressed India’s role as a global economic powerhouse and a critical player in international supply chains.

“Bilateral discussions on law enforcement cooperation are ongoing, reflecting progress on accountability,” Carney said. “It was in this context I extended the invitation, which Modi accepted.”

Modi echoed positive sentiments in a social media statement, highlighting the shared democratic values and close ties between India and Canada, though he did not mention law enforcement talks.

Strong Backlash from Sikh Groups

The invitation has sparked strong criticism, particularly from the World Sikh Organization of Canada. They had urged Carney not to invite Modi, citing the ongoing investigation into Nijjar’s murder—an event that remains highly sensitive.

Balpreet Singh, spokesperson for the organization, called the invitation a “betrayal of Canadian values,” especially as the summit coincides with the second anniversary of Nijjar’s assassination.

“This decision reverses the principled stance taken by former Prime Minister Trudeau,” Singh said, expressing shock and disappointment.

Background: The Nijjar Case and Diplomatic Fallout

Nijjar, a Sikh separatist activist in Canada, was fatally shot outside a Surrey gurdwara in June 2023. The Canadian government has linked Indian government agents to his killing, allegations India denies, accusing Canada of supporting “Khalistani terrorists.”

In response, Canada expelled six Indian diplomats in late 2024, prompting India to reciprocate by expelling Canadian diplomats. Arrests and criminal charges against Indian nationals connected to the case remain active.

In October 2024, RCMP revealed evidence tying Indian agents to criminal acts in Canada, including intimidation and extortion.

Carney Emphasizes Legal Process

When pressed on the controversy, Carney maintained that the legal investigation must proceed without political interference. “It’s never appropriate to comment on an ongoing legal process,” he stated.

He also stressed that the “rule of law is proceeding as it should” and reassured that inviting Modi does not disrupt justice efforts.

Political and Expert Reactions

Political leaders expressed mixed views. Conservative Leader Pierre Poilievre and former Prime Minister Stephen Harper emphasized the importance of maintaining strong Canada-India ties, citing trade and security.

Conversely, NDP critics Jenny Kwan and Heather McPherson condemned the invite, standing in solidarity with the Sikh community and calling for accountability and human rights protections.

Naresh Raghubeer, a Canada-India relations expert, underscored the need to separate policing matters from broader diplomatic ties, highlighting India’s importance as a democratic ally and economic partner.

What’s Next?

Despite repeated outreach from Sikh groups to the Prime Minister’s Office, no official response has been given. The World Sikh Organization says it does not plan to send further letters.

Other notable invitees to the G7 include Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum, who has yet to confirm attendance.

Carney’s decision signals a complex balancing act: upholding Canada’s commitment to justice while fostering strategic global relationships. As the G7 summit approaches, tensions remain high, and all eyes will be on how this diplomatic tightrope is managed.

Liberals Unveil Bill to Eliminate Internal Trade Barriers

The “One Canadian Economy” bill aims to remove interprovincial trade barriers and fast-track national projects to boost economic growth across Canada.

Ottawa Moves to Unify Canada’s Internal Market

Prime Minister Mark Carney on Friday announced the tabling of the “One Canadian Economy” bill, a sweeping legislative effort to dismantle internal trade barriers and streamline approvals for major national infrastructure projects. The bill aims to unify Canada’s economy and enhance competitiveness amid global trade uncertainty.

Economic Impact of Trade Barriers Sparks Reform

Internal trade and labour mobility restrictions are estimated to cost the Canadian economy up to $200 billion annually, according to Carney. By eliminating federal-level barriers, the bill seeks to boost business efficiency, reduce consumer costs, and unlock interprovincial commerce. Goods and services will be able to move more freely between provinces under the proposed reforms.

Fast-Tracking Nation-Building Projects

The second pillar of the bill introduces a new mechanism for identifying and accelerating high-impact infrastructure projects. Current federal processes involve multiple sequential assessments, often delaying approvals for years. The bill proposes simultaneous reviews to cut red tape and bring projects online faster, which Carney argues is essential for Canada’s economic growth and global competitiveness.

Support from Business Leaders

The Canadian Chamber of Commerce welcomed the bill, calling it “a good start” toward true internal free trade. “Businesses have long called for the removal of outdated trade exceptions that weaken the Canadian Free Trade Agreement,” said Matthew Holmes, Chief of Public Policy. While not a panacea, Holmes noted the move could cushion economic shocks from escalating tariffs under U.S. President Donald Trump’s trade war.

Legislative Timing and Political Coordination

Carney pledged to enact the reforms by Canada Day, though parliamentary timelines suggest Royal Assent before the summer recess is unlikely. Still, the federal government is actively working with premiers across Canada, several of whom—including those in Ontario and Quebec—have introduced similar provincial bills to remove local trade barriers.

A Closer Look at Internal Barriers

Internal trade barriers include regulatory differences in product standards, transportation rules, and professional certifications. For example, a licensed tradesperson or massage therapist may need to fully re-certify to work in a different province. Likewise, uneven trucking regulations and alcohol distribution rules create friction in interprovincial commerce.

Strategic Timing Amid Global Trade Pressures

The federal move comes as Carney navigates ongoing trade tensions with the U.S., including behind-the-scenes talks with President Trump. With international trade policy increasingly unpredictable, the bill is positioned as a domestic counterbalance—ensuring Canadian goods, services, and labour can operate seamlessly across provinces.

22 Crew Rescued After Cargo Ship Fire in North Pacific

A cargo ship carrying 3,000 vehicles, including 800 EVs, caught fire off Alaska. All 22 crew were rescued safely in a major maritime operation.

Evacuation Off Alaska After Fire Engulfs Cargo Vessel

Twenty-two crew members aboard the Morning Midas, a car carrier en route from China to Mexico, were rescued Tuesday after a fire broke out onboard, forcing an emergency evacuation into the waters off Alaska’s Aleutian Islands.

Fire Erupts Among Electric Vehicles at Sea

The blaze reportedly started on the ship’s stern deck, which was loaded with 800 electric vehicles, part of a 3,000-vehicle shipment. The vessel, managed by London-based Zodiac Maritime, had departed Yantai, China, on May 26 and was bound for Lázaro Cárdenas, Mexico, when smoke was detected roughly 490 km southwest of Adak Island.

Lifeboat Evacuation and Timely Rescue

After failed attempts to control the fire using onboard suppression systems, the 183-metre Liberian-flagged ship was evacuated. The crew launched a lifeboat and were safely rescued by the nearby merchant ship Cosco Hellas, according to a U.S. Coast Guard report. No injuries were reported.

Salvage and Environmental Response Underway

Zodiac Maritime stated it is cooperating with U.S. emergency responders and has dispatched a tugboat to support firefighting and salvage operations. The U.S. Coast Guard has also deployed aircrews and a vessel to monitor the scene, though the fire remained active as of Wednesday afternoon.

Authorities Highlight Need for Maritime Safety

Rear Admiral Megan Dean commended the swift response by nearby vessels and confirmed that the focus is now on recovering the ship and protecting the marine environment. The incident has reignited discussions about safety on the high seas, especially concerning fires involving electric vehicles.

Growing Global Concern Over Maritime Fires

This latest blaze follows a deadly 2023 cargo ship fire in the North Sea involving EVs, which prompted a Dutch safety board to urge stronger emergency protocols. As maritime cargo volumes rise—now exceeding 80% of global trade by volume—calls for modernizing shipping safety standards are intensifying.

Maple News Wire will continue to follow updates on the Morning Midas and the evolving investigation into fire risks aboard EV-carrying vessels.
