Fuel Pump Flaw Sparks Massive Ford Recall Across Canada and U.S.

If you drive a Ford, especially a newer model, this update is for you. Ford has announced a recall of nearly 950,000 vehicles across Canada and the U.S. due to a low-pressure fuel pump issue that could cause engine stalls while driving—posing serious crash risks.

According to recall details, the problem tends to emerge more during warm weather or when fuel levels are low. The issue affects several popular models, including the F-150, Mustang, Explorer, and Lincoln Navigator, among others.

Which Ford Vehicles Are Affected?

This large-scale recall spans a wide range of model years and vehicle types. Here’s a breakdown of what’s included:

  • Ford Bronco: 2021–2022

  • Ford Expedition: 2022

  • Ford Explorer: 2021–2022

  • Ford F-150: 2021–2022

  • Ford F-Series Super Duty (F-250 to F-550): 2021–2023

  • Ford Mustang: 2021–2022

  • Ford Police Interceptor Utility: 2021–2022

  • Lincoln Navigator: 2021–2022

  • Lincoln Aviator: 2021–2023

In Canada, Transport Canada reports 107,534 affected vehicles, while Ford estimates that 10% of the 850,318 vehicles recalled in the U.S. could be impacted by the faulty fuel pump.

What’s the Issue With the Fuel Pump?

The recall centers on the low-pressure fuel pump, which may fail due to internal contamination—often linked to the car’s jet pump system. In many cases, the issue becomes more likely when temperatures rise or the fuel tank is running low.

Failure of the pump may lead to a sudden loss of engine power, poor engine performance, or a check engine light, all of which could increase the likelihood of an accident.

While Ford hasn’t reported any crashes or injuries, the company says it’s taking precautionary steps to address the concern.

What Should You Do if You Own One of These Models?

Ford will start sending notification letters to affected owners beginning Monday. These letters will explain the safety risks involved and let customers know that a free repair will be available once a solution is finalized.

For now, though, the fix is still under development. A second letter will be sent when the service can actually be performed by an authorized dealer.

Until then, Ford owners should monitor their vehicle’s performance, especially during warm days or when the fuel tank nears empty.

Looking Ahead

The Associated Press has reached out to Ford for additional comments, but no timeline has yet been given for when a complete remedy will be available.

As this story develops, affected drivers should stay vigilant and keep an eye out for the first official notification from Ford.
