RCMP ticket Tesla driver caught asleep in rainy rush hour. Police stress self-driving tech is not legal in B.C. and drivers must stay alert.

Driver Found “Asleep” in Rush Hour Traffic

A shocking scene unfolded on a busy Metro Vancouver highway. During a rainy morning commute, police say a Tesla driver appeared to be fast asleep behind the wheel.

The incident happened last Tuesday on Highway 1 in Coquitlam. Traffic moved steadily despite slick road conditions. However, one vehicle stood out for all the wrong reasons.

Officer Spots Alarming Behaviour

An officer from B.C. Highway Patrol pulled up beside the Tesla. What they saw raised immediate concern. The driver’s eyes were closed. Her arms were folded. Meanwhile, the car continued moving through traffic.

At first glance, it looked like no one was in control.

Driver’s Explanation Doesn’t Match Evidence

When questioned, the driver claimed she had simply “zoned out.” She also said her hands stayed on the wheel and she remained aware.

However, video footage told a different story. According to police, the recording did not support her version of events. As a result, officers issued multiple tickets.

Fines Issued for Unsafe Driving

The driver received penalties for speeding and careless driving. Altogether, the fines totalled more than $500.

Although no crash occurred, the situation could have ended much worse. Therefore, police are using this case as a strong reminder for all drivers.

Self-Driving Tech Still Not Allowed in B.C.

Many drivers assume advanced vehicle technology can take over completely. However, that belief can lead to dangerous choices.

In British Columbia, fully automated driving systems are not legal. Specifically, Level 3 or higher automation remains banned on public roads.

What Drivers Need to Know

Vehicle automation comes in different levels. Lower levels, such as lane assist or automatic braking, still require full driver attention. In other words, the driver must stay ready at all times.

Higher levels of automation allow the vehicle to operate on its own. Yet, those systems are not permitted in the province.

Police Urge Drivers to Stay Alert

Authorities are clear: drivers must stay awake, focused, and in control. Even with advanced features, responsibility does not shift away from the person behind the wheel.

So, while technology continues to evolve, safe driving habits must remain unchanged.

The post Tesla Driver Asleep at Wheel Sparks RCMP Warning first appeared on Maple News Wire.

Tesla Pulls Plug on Cheapest Cybertruck

The Tesla Cybertruck faced another setback as the company quietly discontinued its cheapest version, a move that highlights growing sales struggles. Just months after its April 2025 launch, the rear-wheel-drive (RWD) model vanished from Tesla’s online configurator, leaving only the more expensive trims available.

From Big Hype to Big Disappointment

When Tesla first unveiled the Cybertruck, hype exploded with more than 1 million reservations. Elon Musk projected annual production of up to 500,000 units. Yet, reality paints a starkly different picture. Tesla is now selling just 20,000 Cybertrucks per year, a fraction of its lofty target.

Why Buyers Walked Away

The RWD version was Tesla’s attempt to lure cost-conscious buyers with a $70,000 price tag, $10,000 cheaper than the all-wheel-drive version. However, this so-called “affordable” option lacked key features. Buyers lost active air suspension, power outlets in the bed, a motorized tonneau cover, and even a second motor. For many, the stripped-down truck simply wasn’t worth the savings.

Industry Reaction and Frustration

Analysts and fans alike were quick to criticize the move. Some noted that there’s already a small pool of potential Cybertruck buyers, and asking them to accept fewer features for only slightly less money killed interest completely. As one industry take put it: “I don’t know of anyone who actually ordered this.”

What’s Next for the Cybertruck?

The big question now is whether Tesla will reinvest in upgrading the Cybertruck to better reflect its original promise. Without meaningful improvements, the truck risks staying stuck at 20,000 annual sales, well below Tesla’s ambitions. Industry watchers believe Tesla may try to reintroduce enhanced features or improved specs next year to reignite demand.

Tesla’s Cybertruck, once seen as a futuristic disruptor, now finds itself struggling to gain traction. Will upgrades revive interest, or will the truck remain a niche product?

Tesla’s India Launch Faces a Slow Start

Tesla’s highly anticipated India debut generated plenty of buzz, but actual Tesla orders have been more modest than expected. Since launching in mid-July, the company has received just over 600 bookings, according to Bloomberg News. For a brand that often stirs excitement globally, this figure signals a slower-than-hoped entry into India’s challenging auto market.

Shipments Planned for 2024

Despite the lukewarm start, Tesla is moving forward with deliveries. The EV maker plans to ship between 350 and 500 cars this year. The first batch is scheduled to arrive from Shanghai in early September. Initially, deliveries will roll out in four major cities—Mumbai, Delhi, Pune, and Gurugram—where Tesla already has a presence.

Pricing Challenges in India

Tesla introduced the Model Y in India at around $70,000. This steep price tag reflects the country’s high import tariffs on electric vehicles. For years, Tesla has lobbied for lower duties, but the government has remained cautious, aiming to protect local manufacturing. Until policies shift, imported EVs like the Model Y will remain luxury buys for a niche group of buyers.

Strategy Amid Global Headwinds

Tesla’s decision to import rather than manufacture locally comes as it grapples with excess capacity in global plants and softening sales. Selling imported vehicles helps the automaker enter India’s market without immediate investment in production facilities. While this approach carries risks, it allows Tesla to test the waters in a country where EVs currently make up only 4% of car sales.

Roadblocks Beyond Pricing

India’s auto market offers promise, but infrastructure gaps remain. Public EV chargers are scarce, road discipline is inconsistent, and city streets often face potholes or stray animals. These challenges, while common in daily driving, could limit Tesla’s broader appeal beyond major metros.

A Niche but Growing Market

For now, Tesla appears focused on a narrow segment of affluent buyers willing to pay premium prices for EVs. As infrastructure improves and policies evolve, the company could expand further. For India’s consumers, the arrival of Tesla adds excitement to a market gradually embracing cleaner mobility.

Stay tuned with Maple Wire Now for the latest updates on Tesla’s India journey and more breaking news.

The post Tesla Orders in India Fall Short of Expectations first appeared on Maple News Wire.

Tesla Sales Plunge in Canada Amid EV Competition

Tesla sales in Canada continue to plunge as electric vehicle (EV) competition grows stronger. The automaker’s second-quarter results confirmed the slide, with global revenue dropping 12% to $22.5 billion, operating margins sinking to 4.1%, and deliveries falling 14% to 384,122 units. In Canada, the fall is sharper—registrations collapsed 67% in the first half of 2025. Quebec led the decline with an 85% drop in just three months.

Reputation Takes a Hit

Tesla’s challenges go beyond sales figures. CEO Elon Musk’s political affiliations have damaged the brand’s appeal, particularly in left-leaning markets. Many Canadians now hesitate to associate with Tesla, further dragging down demand. Meanwhile, Chinese EV makers like BYD and established giants such as Volkswagen are seizing market share.

Canada’s ZEV Mandate and Tesla’s Role

Canada’s zero-emission vehicle (ZEV) mandate requires automakers to meet strict electric sales targets. Falling short forces them to buy credits from competitors, often Tesla. While this policy benefits Tesla financially, critics argue it unfairly penalizes legacy automakers and limits consumer choice. Some manufacturers say government-sold credits would create a fairer system.

Rebates and Tariffs Add Pressure

The expiration of Canada’s $3-billion federal iZEV rebate program hit Tesla especially hard. The automaker had claimed $43 million in incentives, sparking controversy before being cleared of wrongdoing. Yet, provincial governments in B.C., Nova Scotia, P.E.I., and Manitoba later cut Tesla from local rebate programs.

At the same time, tariffs increased the price of Tesla’s best-seller, the Model Y, by $20,000. The company responded with price cuts and import adjustments, but these moves risk alienating past buyers while eroding profitability.

Can Tesla Recover?

Experts believe Tesla’s only clear path back involves significant price reductions, though tariffs may limit how far the company can go. Lower prices might win back consumers but could frustrate existing owners who paid more, creating another dilemma for the brand.

As for Canada’s EV market, many industry leaders urge the federal government to rethink or scrap the ZEV mandate, arguing the current system burdens automakers and confuses consumers. Without reforms, both Tesla and its rivals may struggle to balance affordability with compliance.

Stay tuned to Maple Wire for more insights on Tesla, EV trends, and Canada’s auto industry future.

The post Tesla Faces Steep Decline in Canada first appeared on Maple News Wire.

A New Era for Tesla Owners in Canada

Tesla has officially rolled out its extended warranty program in Canada, giving drivers a flexible monthly plan to protect their vehicles. The new service mirrors the option launched in the United States earlier this year, allowing Canadian customers to extend coverage without paying a large lump sum upfront. For owners seeking peace of mind beyond their original warranty, this subscription-based model could prove a game-changer.

Flexible Coverage Tailored to Owners

Tesla’s Extended Service Agreement (ESA) covers vehicles for up to four years or 80,000 kilometres, whichever milestone arrives first. Instead of a fixed two-year contract, drivers can now pay monthly, starting coverage as soon as their standard warranty ends.

Pricing depends on the model:

Model S – C$170 per month

Model 3 – C$70 per month

Model X – C$205 per month

Model Y – C$80 per month

Cybertruck – not yet available

Customers who keep the plan for the full term pay a maximum of C$3,840 for a Model Y, spreading costs evenly over time. Importantly, owners can cancel anytime, though once cancelled, they cannot re-enroll later.

What’s Covered Under the Plan

The ESA is designed to shield owners from costly mechanical or electrical repairs. Tesla covers most parts it manufactures or supplies, with each service visit carrying a C$135 deductible. This makes the plan especially valuable for major component failures that could otherwise lead to significant repair bills.

What’s Not Included in the Coverage

Like most extended warranties, the ESA excludes certain items. It does not cover:

The 12V battery

Bodywork or paint repairs

How Canadian Owners Can Enroll

Enrolling is simple and takes only a few minutes through the Tesla app. Owners just need to:

Open the app and head to Upgrades > Service Plans > Extended Service Agreement.

Tap Subscribe and confirm the payment method.

Coverage begins immediately once the subscription starts, ensuring there is no gap in protection.

Why This Plan Matters for Canadian Drivers

Extended warranties have always divided opinion among car buyers. However, Tesla’s monthly approach adds flexibility that traditional programs lack. Owners can continue as long as they want or cancel once they feel comfortable without extra coverage.

For Canadian drivers—especially those far from Tesla Service Centres—the program provides cost-effective access to certified technicians and genuine parts. It helps drivers avoid hefty repair bills and keeps vehicles in peak condition.

Tesla CEO Elon Musk has secured a staggering $29 billion pay package, even as the electric car giant navigates declining sales and a bold shift toward AI and robotics. The award, approved by Tesla’s board, underscores their confidence in Musk’s ability to guide the company through a challenging period.

Board Stands Firm Despite Legal Battles

The decision comes months after a Delaware court struck down Musk’s original 2018 performance award following a shareholder lawsuit. Tesla is appealing the ruling, but there’s no set timeline for resolution. In a letter to shareholders, the board stressed that Musk has not received “meaningful compensation” in eight years and reaffirmed efforts to reinstate the earlier package.

The newly approved plan grants Musk 96 million Tesla shares, each trading at over $300. He would pay $23.34 per share — the same cost set in 2018 — locking in significant potential gains if the company’s stock rebounds.

Defending Musk’s Track Record

Tesla board members Robyn Denholm and Kathleen Wilson-Thompson praised Musk for achieving the growth milestones tied to his 2018 award. They credited his leadership for creating “immense value” for both Tesla and its shareholders.

Musk, who owns about 13% of Tesla, does not take a salary or bonus. Instead, his wealth comes from stock options priced far below market value — a strategy that has made him one of the world’s richest individuals.

Political Moves Stir Backlash

Musk’s foray into U.S. politics last year and early in 2025 has divided shareholders. His high-profile push to elect Republican candidates drew criticism and protests at Tesla dealerships. The political shift coincided with a sharp drop in Tesla sales and a 25% decline in the company’s share price this year.

Adding to the pressure, President Donald Trump’s domestic agenda removed tax incentives for EV buyers and cut regulatory credit opportunities — two critical revenue streams for Tesla.

Back to Business — With a New Focus

Responding to investor concerns, Musk has promised to return to running his companies full-time. He is steering Tesla toward artificial intelligence, robotics, and related services, reducing its heavy reliance on electric vehicle sales.

Tesla’s current projects include a scaled-back rollout of its long-promised robotaxi service. The board describes this pivot as a natural evolution of Musk’s vision, positioning Tesla for leadership in emerging tech fields beyond transportation.

Tesla Winds Down Its Flagship EVs in Europe

Tesla has officially ended new orders for its Model S and Model X across Europe, signaling a major shift in its electric vehicle strategy. Once the crown jewels of Tesla’s lineup, the luxury EVs are now only available from existing inventory—and only in select markets.

This decision follows a series of cutbacks, including the 2023 halt of right-hand drive production and the earlier discontinuation of these models in China. With Europe now off the table, North America stands as the last stronghold for Tesla’s aging flagships.

From Trailblazers to Tagalongs

It’s hard to overstate how much the Model S and Model X once meant to Tesla. The Model S redefined electric sedans, while the Model X brought bold design and long-range capabilities to SUVs. But as newer models took center stage, these early trailblazers slowly lost their spotlight.

Even recent updates, like multi-color ambient lighting and minor interior tweaks, weren’t enough to breathe new life into them. Prices climbed while excitement dropped, and customers responded with their wallets.

The Numbers Tell the Story

Tesla’s quarterly delivery reports now lump the Model S and X into an “Other Models” category—alongside the Cybertruck and Semi. In the first half of this year, Tesla delivered just 23,275 vehicles in this group. In comparison, the Model 3 and Model Y soared past 700,000 units globally, highlighting just how far the S and X have fallen.

That dramatic difference shows where Tesla’s attention—and consumer demand—now lies. Entry-level affordability and mass-market appeal have clearly taken precedence over luxury and nostalgia.

No Orders, Just Inventory

Tesla’s European site no longer lets customers build or customize a Model S or Model X. Buyers can only choose from what’s left in stock. That move effectively closes the chapter on these models in Europe, following a similar story in China earlier this year.

This isn’t just a temporary supply issue—it’s a phase-out in slow motion. Without right-hand drive production or meaningful innovation, the vehicles no longer align with Tesla’s evolving strategy.

Focus Shifts to Mass Appeal

With the recent launch of the three-row Model Y in China, it’s easy to see where Tesla is headed. The more affordable, more practical Model Y answers a broader market need than the pricey Model X. Meanwhile, the Model S now plays a niche role at best, dwarfed by newer offerings with greater relevance to today’s buyers.

Tesla’s shift isn’t accidental—it’s strategic. The company is prioritizing scale, affordability, and innovation in spaces where demand continues to surge. Unfortunately, that leaves little room for its early flagships.

A Quiet Farewell

As demand cools and global availability shrinks, the Model S and Model X may soon exit the stage entirely. While Tesla hasn’t formally announced their end, the writing is on the wall. With no major updates in sight, and inventory being quietly cleared, the brand’s original status symbols are making way for its next generation of bestsellers.

Tesla’s Toughest Quarter in Over a Decade

Tesla just posted its biggest quarterly revenue decline in more than ten years. The electric vehicle (EV) giant reported $22.5 billion in revenue for the April–June quarter—falling short of both last year’s $25.5 billion and analysts’ $22.74 billion forecast. This marks Tesla’s second consecutive quarterly drop in revenue, despite its bold push into robotaxi innovation and autonomous tech.

Slipping Sales and Delivery Setbacks

The 16% drop in revenue from car sales was hard to ignore. Tesla attributed this decline to a notable dip in deliveries, which had already dropped 14% in the second quarter. While many hoped the launch of the refreshed Model Y would breathe life into Tesla’s numbers, the rebound didn’t materialize fast enough.

This slump raises concerns about waning consumer demand and tough competition in the global EV market. And while Musk has promised a renewed focus on his companies, his growing political entanglements are making investors nervous.

Musk’s Politics Stir Investor Concerns

In recent weeks, Elon Musk’s political activity has taken center stage. His announcement of a new political party and ongoing disputes with former U.S. President Donald Trump have amplified speculation about his time and focus.

His prior association with the Department of Government Efficiency and the resulting layoffs in the U.S. also hurt Tesla’s image domestically. Abroad, his vocal support of Germany’s far-right AfD party has clouded the brand’s standing in Europe.

Investors are asking: Can Musk steer Tesla forward while juggling high-stakes politics?

Executive Departures Add to the Strain

Tesla’s leadership shuffle isn’t helping. The departure of a top executive—one of Musk’s long-trusted allies overseeing sales and manufacturing in North America and Europe—has only deepened unease.

These high-level exits fuel speculation about Tesla’s internal stability, especially during a phase that demands strong direction and consistent innovation.

Betting Big on Robotaxis and AI

Despite the shaky quarter, Tesla is not slowing down on bold tech bets. The company launched a small robotaxi pilot in Austin, Texas last month and is in active discussions with Nevada to expand this service.

Tesla’s valuation—still hovering in trillion-dollar territory—relies heavily on the success of its robotaxi fleet and humanoid robots. Musk’s AI startup, xAI, and its chatbot Grok are expected to play a major role in Tesla’s future strategy.

Analysts See a Turnaround on the Horizon

Financial analysts are staying cautiously optimistic. Dan Ives from Wedbush Securities summed it up: “We are at a positive crossroads in the Tesla story.”

He pointed to four major signals:

Musk’s renewed focus as CEO

Autonomous vehicle expansion

Stabilizing demand, particularly in China

Tesla’s aggressive AI roadmap, potentially integrating xAI

While this quarter’s numbers may not shine, Wall Street appears more interested in the road ahead.

Stocks Sway Amid Mixed Sentiment

Tesla’s stock showed slight gains during the trading day, closing up by 0.1%. However, after-hours trading saw a modest dip of 0.3%, reflecting the market’s mixed reaction.

Tesla, Alphabet Earnings Set the Tone as Markets Hold Steady

With Tesla and Alphabet preparing to unveil their earnings this week, all eyes are on Big Tech’s role in sustaining market momentum. The stock market, driven by investor optimism and solid second-quarter results, remains perched near record highs—despite mounting economic uncertainty and wavering hopes for interest rate cuts.

Both the S&P 500 and Nasdaq Composite ended last week with gains, as earnings reports and cautious Federal Reserve commentary gave traders reason to stay bullish. This week, the focus shifts squarely to tech giants like Tesla and Alphabet, whose performance could either strengthen the rally or pull sentiment back to earth.

Markets Stay Strong as Wall Street Eyes Earnings

Last week, the Nasdaq led the charge with a 1.6% gain, while the S&P 500 rose by 0.7%. The Dow Jones hovered just above flat. Despite continued talk around tariffs and policy risks, stocks have shown surprising resilience.

Now, with 112 S&P 500 companies set to report earnings, investors are gearing up for a week that could reshape the outlook for the rest of the quarter. Results from Tesla, Alphabet, and Chipotle will be especially critical.

Rate Cut Hopes Waver as Fed Signals Mixed Messages

Interest rate expectations remain in flux. Fed Governor Christopher Waller made headlines Thursday with his strongest call yet for a July rate cut. Speaking in New York, Waller argued that inflation is near target and that waiting for the job market to weaken before acting would be a mistake.

However, markets aren’t buying it—at least not fully. A stronger-than-expected June retail sales report, sticky inflation data, and steady jobless claims have cooled expectations. Just a month ago, the chance of a July rate cut stood near 13%. Now, the CME FedWatch Tool shows it at only 5%.

According to Citi chief economist Andrew Hollenhorst, a September cut looks more likely as the labor market shows signs of softening and inflation risks decline.

Strong Earnings, Muted Reactions: A Pattern Emerges

So far, corporate America is delivering. Big banks kicked off the quarter with strong numbers. Then Netflix joined in with an upbeat report Thursday night, even raising its full-year revenue forecast. Yet, the market response was muted. Despite the positive news, Netflix stock fell 5% Friday. Why? Because expectations were already sky-high.

Analyst Ralph Schackart of William Blair summed it up:

“Good results just weren’t enough to exceed lofty expectations.”

FactSet now projects S&P 500 earnings growth at 5.6%, up from 4.8% last week. Still, elevated valuations make it tough for even great earnings to spark further gains. After all, with the S&P trading at 24.7 times trailing earnings, the margin for disappointment is razor-thin.

Tesla and Alphabet: Can They Keep the Rally Going?

This week marks a key test for the so-called Magnificent Seven—the tech titans leading market growth. Tesla and Alphabet are the first of that group to report. Together, these companies are expected to drive 14.1% year-over-year earnings growth in the second quarter. The rest of the S&P 500? Just 3.4%.

Clearly, a lot rides on Big Tech. If Tesla and Alphabet post solid numbers, markets could soar. If not, the rally might stall.

A Broader Market Rally? Not Just Yet

Though Big Tech continues to lead, analysts hope for a broader rally. As Wall Street watches for cyclical sectors to rebound, some strategists warn that the market may be running ahead of fundamentals.

Citi strategist Scott Chronert wrote,

“The issue is the setup. The market is pricing in growth before it happens. We need commentary and proof.”

Analysts want to see growth outside of tech, especially in sectors like manufacturing and services. That shift could indicate a healthier, more sustainable market rally over the next several quarters.

What to Watch This Week

As the Fed enters its blackout period ahead of its July 29–30 policy meeting, economic data will be light. But investor attention will stay sharp. Updates from the services and manufacturing sectors could add clues about the broader economic outlook.

In the meantime, earnings season marches on. If Tesla and Alphabet deliver, they could be the fuel markets need to break new records.

Political ambitions reignite concerns over CEO’s focus amid declining Tesla sales

Tesla shares plunged nearly 8% on Monday, following Elon Musk’s surprise announcement of his new political venture—the America Party. While Musk has always been known for bold moves, this one is hitting a raw nerve with Tesla investors, many of whom fear it’s yet another distraction from an already strained company struggling to rebound from two consecutive quarters of falling deliveries.

Political Storm Sparks Investor Unease

Over the weekend, Musk publicly introduced the America Party, fueling tensions with former ally Donald Trump, who criticized the idea as “ridiculous.” Their escalating feud, which included threats by Trump to revoke federal subsidies that benefit Musk’s businesses, exploded across social media, drawing unwanted political spotlight onto Tesla.

This comes at a time when Tesla can least afford it. With sales slumping and the stock already down 35% since December, investors were hoping for sharper focus from leadership—not more headlines.

Wall Street Reacts: Market Cap Takes a Hit

The fallout was swift. If the current losses hold, Tesla is set to lose over US$80 billion in market value. Meanwhile, traders betting against the stock are poised to gain approximately $1.4 billion in paper profits in just one day.

“Every Tesla investor I know wants this political detour to end,” said Shawn Campbell of Camelthorn Investments. “Tesla needs its CEO in the driver’s seat—not distracted by side ventures.”

Musk’s Role as CEO Faces New Scrutiny

The bigger question now hovers over the Tesla board. With Musk running six companies and now launching a political party, his role as Tesla CEO is under sharper scrutiny.

Back in May, Tesla board chair Robyn Denholm denied reports that directors were considering replacing Musk. However, the board’s silence since this political development is fueling speculation.

Azoria Partners, which had plans to launch a Tesla-focused ETF, has now postponed the initiative. Its CEO, James Fishback, issued a direct call to the board: “It’s time they evaluate whether Elon’s political ambitions align with his duties to Tesla.”

Legal Experts Weigh In

Experts argue that the Tesla board has both the authority and responsibility to act if the CEO’s behavior conflicts with shareholder interests.

“This is exactly the kind of thing a well-functioning board would step in to manage,” said Ann Lipton, professor of business law at the University of Colorado. “But Tesla’s board has repeatedly shown deference to Musk.”

Indeed, Musk is Tesla’s largest individual shareholder, but legal experts like Xu Jiang from Duke University note that the board doesn’t require a shareholder vote to replace a CEO. Still, the move seems improbable given the board’s past actions—or lack thereof.

Investor Patience Wears Thin

For Tesla, whose brand and valuation are closely tied to Musk’s identity, the stakes are incredibly high. If the board remains passive, investor confidence could continue to erode.

Musk’s supporters argue that he has always balanced multiple ventures—from SpaceX to Neuralink—while critics say his increasingly political persona is damaging Tesla’s reputation and focus at a critical time.
