Highway 1 has reopened near Revelstoke after a landslide closure. Wet weather, flood watches, and rapid snowmelt continue across B.C.

A major stretch of Highway 1 in British Columbia’s Interior is back open after a landslide forced an overnight closure, disrupting travel between Revelstoke and Golden.

Key Highway Link Restored After Overnight Closure

Drivers can once again use Highway 1 after crews cleared a landslide that blocked the route east of Revelstoke. According to DriveBC, the highway reopened at 10:23 a.m. on Friday.

The closure began around 8 p.m. Thursday and affected a critical transportation corridor between Revelstoke and Golden.

Landslide Hit Near Mount Revelstoke National Park

The slide occurred west of the Skunk Cabbage Boardwalk in Mount Revelstoke National Park, just outside Revelstoke.

As a result, traffic came to a halt for several hours. However, road crews worked through the night to restore access and improve safety for motorists.

Wet Conditions Continue to Cause Problems

The landslide is one of several weather-related issues affecting roads across the B.C. Interior.

Meanwhile, DriveBC reports water pooling on several major routes, including:

• Highway 1 between Kamloops and Sicamous
• Highway 97A north of Vernon
• Highway 97 from Lake Country to Kamloops

Because of ongoing rain and saturated ground conditions, drivers are being urged to remain alert and check road conditions before travelling.

Flood Watches Remain in Effect Across B.C.

At the same time, the River Forecast Centre has issued flood watches and high streamflow advisories for large areas of central and southeastern British Columbia.

Forecasters warn that heavy rainfall, combined with warmer temperatures, is speeding up snowmelt in higher elevations. Consequently, rivers and streams could rise quickly over the coming days.

Although Highway 1 has reopened, weather-related risks remain across the region. Therefore, travellers should stay informed, monitor updates, and prepare for changing road conditions.

With rain continuing in many areas and snowmelt accelerating, transportation officials are closely watching conditions throughout the Interior.
